St. Mary School was founded in 1863 as St. Anne Academy in Mattoon, Illinois. In 1893, a new, two-story structure was built and named St. Joseph School. The curren

t school as seen above was built in 1963.

St. Mary School is a preschool through 5th grade elementary school in the Diocese of Springfield, Illinois, and is dedicated to the development of the whole child for a better life on earth and for an eternal place in the Kindgom of God. Our doors are open to all walks of faith.

Dear Friends and Family,

Welcome to St. Mary School. Thank you for allowing us the opportunity to share our mission, teaching, pride in our school and so much more with you and your family. I invite you to come walk the halls of St. Mary School, visit our classrooms, and talk with our students, parents, and faculty. You will quickly observe why St. Mary School is the best place for your children.

St. Mary School is dedicated to the development of the whole child for a better life on earth and for an eternal place in the kingdom of God. The school offers a faith-based education where the faculty and staff put into practice the values that parents instill at home.

We are thankful to all those who support St. Mary School in making our school a success. The commitment and enthusiasm of our students, parents, grandparents, faculty, staff, and all others is truly a blessing from the Lord.
